General License Course Requirements & Objectives:
Requirement & Options: Typically, the General License Class student should currently hold an FCC Amateur Technician license. Students not possessing the Technician license should enroll in the Technician License Class instead. However, students possessing a strong technical background may complete both Technician and General class content to earn both license steps during this class offering. Students interested in this option should register for the Technician License Class, and additional information about the option to add General will be provided via email.
The General License Class has two objectives:
- The student will be able to pass the FCC General License Exam (Element 3), qualifying for the second level FCC Amateur Radio License.
- The student will have sufficient knowledge to operate an amateur radio station on the General Class frequency allocations above 1.8 MHz, with a particular focus on HF single sideband operations.
Philosophy:
This is a highly-compressed course that depends on the focus and motivation of the student. Online lessons (reading, video, quiz) must be completed in accordance with the class pacing schedule. The lessons cover a wide variety of material in a short time, but they may be covered as the student's personal schedule allows. The use of practice exams near the completion of the online course is very important for evaluating topic areas that need review and for ensuring readiness for the real exam.
